2 Gallon Petrol Cans for the General Petroleum Co Ltd
Little is known of this company. It appears that it was a marketing and distribution company within the UK and possibly it became the British Petroleum Co Ltd. The advertisements below dating from 1907 illustrate the marketing arrangement with Shell. In that same year it is known that Shell entered into a marketing and distribution agreement with the British Petroleum Co Ltd. Whether these companies were one and the same or had some kind of other business relationship is not currently known. Some clues though come from the second 2 gallon petrol can shown below which had a B.P. Co Ltd brass handle plate fitted at some time indicating a possible crossover in business interest.
