Taken on the 22/12/2011 an interesting photograph of a disused garage at Well Street, Buckingham showing 2 Avery Hardoll petrol pumps with the overhead swinging arm arrangements. These pumps must have been reliable because being chisled into the wall made any rear maintenance very difficult if not impossible. This garage was formerly an old Congregational Church and if anyone has images of this garage in better days then please contact us. With thanks and Copyright to Kim Porter Graphic Design |

This photograph of Dave's Grandad's Shell Petrol Station at Merriottsford, Merriott, Near Crewkerne, Somerset was taken around 1955 and although in black and white it clearly illustrates the period petrol pump livery of red and yellow. The pump prices were Shellmex at 4/1, Shell at 4/71/2, and Super Shell at 4/11 a gallon. With thanks to Dave Sampson |
This later photograph of Dave's Grandad's Shell Petrol Station at Merriottsford was taken around 1970 and illustrates the later all yellow petrol pump livery. With thanks to Dave Sampson |
Clovelly Cross Filling Station, Devon, this photograph was probably taken in the late 1940's early 1950's. Built in 1930, this was an architect designed garage which is now grade 2 listed. The photograph shows the original Hammond Visible petrol pumps between the archways. Clovelly Cross was designed to compliment the area it served thus reducing its impact upon the local environment. See the next photograph for an up-to-date view of Clovelly Cross. With thanks to Gaspumpgary |

Run by F.G. Wade-Palmer and Richard (Rick) Ford from 1958 to 1961, and photographed in 1960 by Rick, the Jack o' Lantern Garage near Romsey, Hampshire, England, sports 5 Beckmeter pumps with Regent branding. This photograph is interesting from 2 particular points of view, firstly the new brands of Regent Supreme and Regent Super on offer which helps to give a fairly precise timeline, and the Rolls Royce in the foreground that once belonged to HRH Prince of Wales (Edward VIII).
Question, can anyone specify the exact dates that Regent Supreme and Regent Super were introduced?

Grand Parade Garage, Trafalgar Street Brighton. Established in 1918, this small mews garage with its tiled facade had a sense of permanency about it. It is believed that it had 2 pumps, one either side of the entrance way. If you have any information about this garage or have photographs then please contact us. With thanks to Peter Jeffrey who can remember this as a working business in the 1940's |
