REDLINE - GLICO LTD, following the merger of The Redline Motor Spirit Co Ltd and Glico Ltd in 1931, had offices situated at Waterloo House, Haymarket, London EC but as if to emphasize who the leading company was "Waterloo House" was soon renamed "Redline House".
Competition was tough in the 1930's and Redline - Glico

kept its brands of Redline and Redline Super in the public eye by specific
advertising campaigns. It took out expensive full colour front and back page page advertising in "The Motor" magazine. The advertisements shown below demonstrate the superb livery of red lined blue petrol pumps coupled with a strong logo for their Redline Super brand "The Top Gear Spirit". You would be forgiven to forget that the depression of the 1930's had not happened as the glamour of some of the company's adverts seek to sell a different story.
Following the merger of 1931 brands on offer were;

Redline Super
Glico
Redline Benzol Mixture
Redline Commercial
Glico Ethyl
The company also had a range of motor oils; Redline - Glico Motor Oil and Redline - Glico Super Motor Oil. These products were sold in the 1930's in attractively designed pyramid tins and good examples of these tins are much sought after today.

With thanks to Marc and Laura for searching out the Redline advertisements on this page.
The second world war of 1939 to 1945 caused the fortunes of all petrol companies to come under more pressure, petrol had been "Pooled" and brand names had disappeared, and Redline - Glico Ltd was no exception. After the war Britain was in the grip of re-building and modernisation and the larger petrol companies had the financial muscle to play their part by expanding their operations through takeovers of the smaller companies, particularly those that had reasonable forecourt exposure. On a date which is not presently known, Redline - Glico Ltd had been taken over by the Anglo-American Oil Co / Esso but had continued with its own branded operations/marketing. The last known company advertising was 1952 but by 1953, when branded petrol could be sold once more, the company brands and name had gone being replaced instead by Esso and their range of brands and products.
